Band: Gype
From: Aberdeen, Scotland
Their formation story:
(Dave, guitar): "3 of us have known each other for a long time from various bands over the years in Aberdeen, Scotland, and were all interested in doing some d-beat hardcore, only thing we were missing was a drummer. We then met Dallas playing in another local band, and because he was playing Motörhead's 'The Hammer' at about 2.5x the normal tempo and wearing a Gulch shirt, we asked if he'd be interested. And voila, all the ingredients for d-beat hardcore band."
Their sound in their own words:
"I'd say our style is classic d-beat, though with American hardcore and Swedish kängpunk influences. Huge influences were classic bands like Skitsystem, State of Fear, Disrupt, Mob47, and more modern bands like Tørsö, Armor, Gas Rag, and No Future."
Latest release info:
"It's our first EP, though we didn't want to use the term 'Demo' so just made it a self-titled EP. 6 originals and an Armor cover, recorded locally at York Street Studios by Michael MacDonald, then mixed and mastered by Ben Jones from Pest Control. Out now on bandcamp and streaming platforms, with vinyl copies still in the works."
Future plans:
"Get the EP pressed on vinyl, then just start gigging around the UK trying to shift copies and introduce ourselves to new people. We're playing a few local shows, then Wastelands Festival in Glasgow in June, before more local and close to home shows."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Sex Germs, Rat Cage, Tormented Imp, Vøtiv, Ona Snop, Stiff Meds, Thumbsucker, Endless Swarm, Wreaking Joy, Kaddish, Horsebastard, Disposable, Hellripper, Bed of Wasps, Earth to Dust, C.H.O.U."
