Band: Refuse 2 Lose
From: Seattle, Washington
Their formation story:
(Ian, drums): "I'm currently 20 years old and have been going to shows for a fat minute in the NWHC scene, The first band I ever started was with my homie Grant. We were a metalcore band called Plagued By God, I played drums and he did vocals. That lasted for about 6-7 months and was a great time but came to an end pretty quickly.
"After that project broke up, of course me and Grant wanted to get something going as soon as possible and with needing a bassist and vocals now that grant was hoppin on guitar- we knew we had to get the our closest friend and scariest mosher to front the band: Cody.
"Later, it clicked in my head I wanted my brother Kevan to hop on bass cause he always wanted to be in a band and here we are now."
Their sound in their own words:
"As someone with close ties to the East Coast New York area a lot of personal ones were hella old bands from NYC. But as far as band influences I would say: for fans of One Second Thought, Built Upon Frustration, and No Retreat. Our sound is really for the people who want to beat up everyone on the dancefloor and prove their ignorance at shows."
Latest release info:
"Our 6-track EP, Winner Takes All, took us about 5-6 months to get fully completed. We recorded with the G.O.A.T. Joe Anderson in PDX at Helvete Sound and he is definitely the guy to go too for recording and mixing. Truly one of the nicest people we met and made us sound fat as hell.
"We as a band share alot of interests in Film and TV so the samples on the EP were always being discussed. Mr Inbetween on FX was the first and Streetwise was the artwork for the cover and the sample that plays on our track with Tears of Joy, “Bitter End."
"Most important was just capturing a violent and angry sound for the scene to enjoy and keep things thriving here in the PNW."
Future plans:
"Definitely just playing a good amount of shows, we got one coming up with the End of Dayz, Adipocere, and Impurity, and also Deprave coming up from San Jose. Other than that, some tours are gonna be planned heading up to Canada and hopefully down to Cali and surrounding areas."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Dont skip out on The July Effect, Bodyshot, Cherub Chains, Tears of Joy, Place of Refuge, Seasons Worn, and End of Dayz purely cause they’ve been putting in work since the beginning and hold it down for the scene here and were one of the first bands I ever saw from the Seattle/Tacoma area."
