Band: Violent Abuse
From: Washington State
Their formation story:
(Kyle Schmitt, guitars/vocals): "Jason's (drummer) other band, Reaping Fields, was playing with my band, SIMP, and I noticed Jason had a Crossed Out patch on his vest so I asked him if hed be interested in playing some power violence. He said yes and the rest is history."
Their sound in their own words:
"Violent Abuse is primarly a power violence band but we draw heavy influence from the punk and hardcore scenes as well.
"Our biggest influences musically are bands like Crossed Out, No Comment, Iron Lung, Minor Threat, Negative Approach, SS Decontol, stuff like that. If its aggressive and fast its right up our alley."
Latest release info:
"The name of the EP is Defenseless, and this word is a recurring theme across the tape, used in different ways. Defenseless is about looking at the world around us and seeing the horrible effects of capitalism, our government, waste and pollution, everything about the modern world is unnatural, and works so poorly, that it's not justifiable or defendable.
"As well as, personally feeling overwhelmed, unprotected, and defenseless from the outside world. Seeing the horrible parts of modern life and feeling totally powerless. Ambush Records (USA) and Gone Blind (Indonesia) helped with the tape release and Vanilla Thunder Records (Singapore) is doing a small run of lathe cut 7 inches.
"We also had Tommy Wilson design some rad cover art for the tape and Jason our drummer screenprinted a double-sided J card for the tape that can be folded into 2 different covers. Its the first I've seen something like this and it turned out super sick."
Future plans:
"We are currently writing and recording new music for a couple upcoming splits. One with Suicideforce out of Italy and another with It's A Setup out of Spokane. We also plan on hitting the road for a 4 or 5 days in September."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Some bands to check out in the PNW are Psychic Death (Spokane), Reaping Fields (Spokane), Impermanence (pdx), Prager Youth (Eugene), Sidetracked (Tacoma), and Hummingbird of Death (Boise)."
Defenseless is available on cassette via Ambush Records (US) and Gone Blind Records (Singapore).
