With 2025 still in its early stages, the Latin American hardcore community continues to thrive. With that being said, Mexicali’s very own Absolve Me brings forth their debut EP, The Thin Line Between Composure and Insanity.
The band formed in 2020, during peak-COVID era due to the urge and need to exploit a “new” creative outlet. This results in them bringing us a 5-song EP, with banger after banger; comprised of a heavy metalcore sound that reminds me a bit of acts such as Cauldron.
The last song on the recording, titled “Born from Nothing” (only with talent, apparently) features Marco Torres from Mexicali heavyweights Truth Be Told, and Tijuana’s very own Toni “El Lic” Tapia from GRAYOUT:
When asked about the EP, Absolve Me vocalist Cristian Moreno had the following to comment:
“[The EP] talks about the hardships and struggles of one's mental health, it is not meant to romanticize depression, but more to cope with it, and to sympathize with those struggling with it. With each song, we portrait some stages of the grieving process: the downfall, pain and guilt, bargaining, helplessness and hostility, and the path to finding peace.
"The recording represents the collective need to let our creativity out and build something that we love during times of incertitude and high anxiety. We wanted to create something positive out of a bad situation. We feel that we were able to achieve this, and our friendships have been deeply strengthened thanks to this project."
All 5 songs on The Thin Line Between Composure and Insanity were recorded, mixed, and mastered by Truth Be Told’s bassist Armando Navarrete at Little Hammer Records. Also helping with designing skills, Luis Ramirez came through again with a “stellar job bringing to life the visual identity of the record, with art that evokes the feelings of dread, anxiety, and frantic energy that the music communicates," as Cristian puts it together.
This was a product of many years’ work and combined efforts of many creative minds, as the band states.
