Coronary: Chicago Crossover HC Band Unleashes Riff Storm on “Plenty Was Never Enough”

Coronary got dem guitar riffs. Formed back in 2015, the Chicago band is making its No Echo debut today, but let's provide some quick history first.

"I was in a silly band with Ryan (vocals) called Hot Dog Attacker," guitarist/vocalist Brian Santostefano tells No Echo about Coronary's beginnings. "He was the drummer but when I got to talking to him about hardcore music I started thinking, 'this dude should be a singer.' We started riffing ideas more and more and it evolved organically from there."

Listening to the dudes in Coronary list off some of their influences, it's not hard to see how they cook up those riffs I mentioned earlier. "In my head, we’re 85% the first two Suicidal Tendencies records, 10% ‘88-’90 SxTx, and 5% Suicidal for Life," says drummer Eric Baskauskas.

Bassist Sean Gerold shares this:

"We’re a hardcore punk band but not limited to just one lane. We like a lot of different bands and styles — d-beat, thrash, noise, etc. — and aren’t afraid to mix it up a little. As long as it’s fast. We go off on tangents sometimes, we go a few different places, but we always come back to playing fast."

Last year, Coronary dropped a tasty LP called The Future...Is Now, and wasting no time, they're returning to record stores in early 2025 with a new album called M.A.D.ness

No Echo got the early jump on a track from the forthcoming album called "Plenty Was Never Enough" that perfectly showcases their unrelenting crossover hardcore attack:

"M.A.D.ness is the perfect representation of what we’ve become," Coronary vocalist Ryan Morris proudly states. "It’s angry, fast, heavy, conscious, and gets weird in spots. The songs touch on the horribleness of this world and life without feeling like a total drag."

Eric shares some future plans for the band: "We’ve got the record coming out on Valentine’s Day because this band is all about love. A sick hometown show the next day that’ll be announced soon, and then we’re putting together a little March Midwest trip. More to come after that!"

M.A.D.ness will be released on February 14th, 2025 via Rad Girlfriend Records.
