Crimea is not exactly the first place most people associate with metallic hardcore, but Disfform are trying to change that. Formed earlier this year from the remnants of several long-running local bands, the group pulls heavily from classic New York hardcore, H8000-style metallic aggression, death metal, and hip-hop groove while helping cultivate a newer generation of hardcore bands within the region’s still-small scene.
The band came together after vocalist Sergey stepped away from music following the breakup of Solid Ground, while drummer Il and guitarist Nick were also seeking a fresh start after the collapse of their previous projects, including Rising, Zodd, and Grasp.
“Right from our very first meeting, we instantly clicked and knew exactly what we wanted the new band to sound like,” the band explains. That chemistry quickly led to rehearsals, a two-track demo recorded within only a couple of months, and eventually a cassette release through St. Petersburg’s Suckerpunch Records.
Just last week, Dissform teamed up with the label again for the release of Collapsed On Twists of Fate, a 3-song EP:
Musically, Disfform specifically points toward Darkside NYC, Goatamentise, Deformity, End of One, and Confusion as major influences shaping their sound.
Even beyond the band itself, Disfform are actively trying to help grow a proper hardcore community within Crimea through DIY shows and the ongoing Brainwashed Fest series, which has already inspired younger local bands like Beware to start playing shows.
For a region with relatively few active hardcore bands, Disfform feel less like an isolated project and more like the beginning of something larger.
