Formed in 2020, Edict is a Providence, Rhode Island-based band that cooks up a potent stew of death metal-influenced hardcore. Since releasing their debut EP in 2022, the quintet has worked the live circuit alongside such bands as Obituary, Cave In, and Deadguy.

2023 saw the release of their In Defense of Labor EP via Unbeaten Records, while this past year, Edict continued thier once-a-month weekend run policy going, touring with labelmates Wisdom and War along the way.

Some major changes recently went down within the Edict lineup as vocalist Joe Krewko (Bury Your Dead, As the Sun Sets, She Rides) left the fold. Taking over on vocals is former bassist Boomer, while Matty Connolly (Euclid, Shapethrower) has joined to handle bass duties.

"Joe is going to be a father and decided to focus on that," Edict guitarist George Radford (also bassist of Dropdead) told me via email. "We wish him all the best.

"We have always loved Boomer's backup vocals so when Joe left we all had the same idea for him to take over. He was up for the challenge so then we got Matty on bass. We've all known and have been friends with Matty for a while now through music and work. Edict had played with one of his bands Shapethrower a handful of times.

"The Rhode Island and New England music scene in general is pretty incestuous. Everyone fills in or plays in each other's bands so when the time came to get a bass player Matty was willing and able so he slid right in. We are very excited for 2025."

The refreshed lineup of Edict will be releasing a new EP in early 2025, but who the hell wants to wait for that? Let's close out 2024 with a taste of the forthcoming EP with a track called "Headless" to set the stage. Check out the Kristi Xhelili-directed music video below. The word "savage" comes to mind:

The third Edict EP will see release in early 2025 through Unbeaten Records.
