False Body have spent the time since their last No Echo feature working on their next phase. The Alberta hardcore band will release their new LP, Tomorrow Starts Without You, later this month, and it's a sick piece of work.
“It’s the best thing we’ve ever done, and I’m so proud of it. This is by far the most meticulous we’ve ever been while writing and recording to make sure every element of every song feels and sounds great,” False Body guitarist Lee Zacharko tells No Echo. “Wax Vessel is pressing a run of vinyl for us, and they’ve been amazing to work with.”
False Body’s approach has grown more deliberate, with the band often spending months refining ideas that might only appear briefly in a song. “I think we’ve all pushed each other to level up a bit, and we’ve been more thoughtful when we’re writing new songs. Sometimes we’ll spend like six months working on a single transition that only lasts five seconds, scrapping ideas until everything feels right,” Zacharko says.
“I think Michelle’s lyrics and vocals have also evolved. It feels like with every new release, I’m surprised by her again. She has such a knack for saying things in a really evocative way. I just love it.”

Some have called the new material a departure, but for Zacharko, Tomorrow Starts Without You is a logical next step. He describes the record as both 'smarter and dumber' than their previous work. “They’ve got some of the most complicated, melodic, intricate sections we’ve ever done, but there are also way more ass-beater parts and braindead dummy riffs,” he explains. “That’s the stuff that hits live, so maybe we leaned into it subconsciously.”
On a recent Western Canadian tour with Los Angeles band Lockslip, False Body brought their heavier material to new audiences. “It felt great getting a chance to show them how dope our city and community is because it’s so far north and out of reach for a lot of bands,” the guitarist tells No Echo. “We always really appreciate it when a band goes out of their way to see the Prairies. It’s a lot of driving, but it’s a really great and hospitable scene.”
As for newer music coming out of Alberta, Zacharko points No Echo readers toward Contain and Seven Crown, two bands he believes deserve more attention.
Next up, False Body will play Edmonton's Infest in September, sharing the stage with a certain Chicago power violence crew. “We’re playing on a bill with Weekend Nachos there, which is like a dream come true. I never thought I’d get to see that band, much less play with them,” he says. “We’ve also got shows coming up with Truck Violence and The HIRS Collective, both of which are extremely exciting, and we’re about to announce an album release show in our hometown.”
Stay tuned for another single, “Heel,” dropping on September 11. As the conversation closes out, Zacharko tells No Echo that LP holds a special meaning to the band. "Tomorrow Starts Without You will be out on September 25,” the guitarist says, “and it’s dedicated to the memory of our friend Dylan McKay.”

Tomorrow Starts Without You will hit streaming outlets on September 25. The Wax Vessel vinyl pressing has already sold out, but the band will have 100 copies for sale soon.
