Wyatt for No Echo again with a new video interview, this time with New York-based hardcore punk band GASSED.
GASSED have a new release titled Mental due out October 6 via Uprising Records on all major streaming services, with a vinyl release also planned.
Yes, Uprising Records is back in full force after a long hiatus. The label's catalog includes Fall Out Boy's early release Evening Out with Your Girlfriend, Racetraitor's Burn the Idol of the White Messiah, and one of my personal favorites, 7 Angels 7 Plagues' Jhazmyne's Lullaby.
GASSED play energetic hardcore punk with a great deal of creativity. When you hear the description "New York hardcore band," you might expect a certain sound, but this is different. As the band puts it, "It's hardcore from New York, but it's not necessarily New York Hardcore."
Across the eight tracks on Mental, you'll hear relatable lyrics, fast riffs, D-beats, and a driving intensity throughout.
The album was produced by Don Fury, who was featured in Carlos' The Most Influential Figures of NYHC series. His credits include Sick of It All, Snapcase, Helmet, and many others.
The same drum kit used on Agnostic Front's United Blood was used during the recording of Mental, along with a GG Allin guitar cab. (I hope it was disinfected. —Carlos)
In the video interview below, I talk with Micah (vocals), Marcus (bass), and Logan (guitar) about Mental, the band's origins, and what it was like recording with Don Fury. I also had to ask about their favorite New York pizza spots. Yes, they frequent Chrissy's Pizza.
Tune in to the interview below, and be sure to order Mental, due out October 6.
