Long Island hardcore heavyweights Pain of Truth have announced their sophomore album, Pain of Truth, due out September 25 via DAZE. Alongside the announcement, the band has unveiled the first single, "Unforgiven," accompanied by a performance video directed and produced by Luis Hernandez, with Tyler Bradberry serving as the director of photography and assistant producer.
Produced by Will Putney (Body Count, Incendiary), the 11-song album builds on the band's blend of old-school hardcore and modern heaviness. According to the band, the record centers on themes of resistance, struggle, and perseverance, pairing massive grooves, crushing breakdowns, and shouted gang vocals.
Speaking on the track, Pain of Truth singer Michael Brian Smith shares:
“I wrote this track to give a sense of hope in horrible times. Using your energy to make a move and turning it into a win.”
The album follows an already busy stretch for the band, which has spent the last several years touring extensively after releasing an EP, two splits, and its debut full-length, 2023's Not Through Blood.
Smith started Pain of Truth during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns, following the break-up of his previous band, Hangman. Previous to that, he had played in the LIHC bands Stand Your Ground and Numbskull.
The band also kicks off a string of California dates this week before appearing at Vans Warped Tour in Long Beach. Additional appearances are scheduled for Bloodaxe Festival, Furnace Fest, Sick New World, Flyover Fest, and Vans Warped Tour Orlando later this year.
