Town Liar is a new band featuring quite an impressive lineup of musicians: Benny Horowitz (The Gaslight Anthem, Antarctigo), Nick Remondelli (None More Black, The Break In Mile), Heath Saraceno (Midtown, Senses Fail), and Jason Shevchuk (Kid Dynamite, None More Black).
The New Jersey band is set to release their debut album, Lies: One Through Seven, on vinyl for the first time through Not Sorry Records on August 28.
While their respective résumés cover plenty of ground, the roots of Town Liar stretch back to the mid-'90s New Jersey hardcore scene, where Shevchuk and Remondelli first played together in the vegan straight-edge band Bound. The pair later crossed paths in The Break In Mile before Shevchuk went on to Kid Dynamite and None More Black, the latter of which Remondelli also briefly joined.
Years later, Shevchuk and Remondelli crossed paths again while working on the Former Member project, which led to the idea of starting a new band. Horowitz joined on drums, and Saraceno, usually a guitarist, took up bass after reconnecting with Remondelli.
With everyone balancing different schedules, Lies: One Through Seven took shape through traded demos, emails, and any chance the four had to meet up in person. The record is melodic and catchy, but stays rooted in the New Jersey punk tradition.
After a digital release on Bandcamp, the album is now seeing its first physical pressing, with Not Sorry Records putting out 300 vinyl copies.
“The best part of Town Liar is making music with some of the greatest friends I have had in my life and, obviously, amazing musicians,” Remondelli says. “It is inspiring and amazing.”
